Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and responsible Online Math Tutor to provide one-on-one instruction for an 8th-grade student.
The student needs to strengthen foundational math skills while keeping up with current 8th-grade coursework. Based on his current performance, there are some gaps in 5th--7th grade foundational skills, particularly in fractions, decimals, positive and negative numbers, order of operations, and multi-step calculations.
We are looking for a tutor who can assess the student's current level, identify specific learning gaps, provide targeted instruction, and gradually strengthen the skills needed for 8th-grade math and Algebra 1.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one online math tutoring
- Assess the student's current math level and identify learning gaps
- Strengthen foundational 5th--7th grade math skills as needed
- Support the student's current 8th-grade coursework
- Prepare the student for Algebra 1 concepts as appropriate
- Keep the student actively engaged through questions, interaction, and independent problem-solving
- Monitor the student's attention and redirect him when needed during online lessons
- Assign a small amount of targeted practice after each lesson and review it during the following session
- Provide regular feedback on the student's progress and areas that need improvement
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Middle School Math and Algebra 1
- Previous middle school teaching or tutoring experience preferred
- Experience providing one-on-one instruction preferred
- Ability to identify foundational learning gaps and provide targeted remediation
- Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly and patiently
- Strong online teaching and student engagement skills
- Responsible, reliable, and communicative
Teaching Format
Remote / Online, one-on-one
Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
