About the role
A leading Benefit Corporation in the environmental commodities market is seeking a Staff Accountant -- Accounts Receivable to join its accounting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining financial procedures and ensuring financial compliance through the preparation of company reports and financial statements. This role requires strong accounting knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain accurate financial records while supporting accounting operations.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and send invoices to customers, ensuring billing accuracy and timely delivery
- Track outstanding invoices and payment due dates
- Record customer payments, including checks, ACH, wire transfers, and credit card transactions
- Apply payments to the correct customer accounts and invoices
- Contact customers regarding overdue payments while maintaining positive customer relationships and securing payment
- Resolve billing discrepancies and address customer payment concerns
- Reconcile the Accounts Receivable (AR) ledger to ensure all payments are properly accounted for
- Investigate discrepancies, short payments, and other reconciliation issues
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for audit purposes
- Review financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance
About you
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required
- Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Accounts Receivable
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience using online accounting software, preferably NetSuite
- Experience working with international currencies
- Excellent spreadsheet skills are required
- Superb verbal and written communication skills
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills
- Excellent problem-solving and time management skills
